Preview on device
Test your app in the cloud simulator in your browser, or install it on a real phone with OpenV2 Companion.
You have two ways to test: the simulator in your browser, and a real phone with Companion.
| Simulator | Real phone (Companion) | |
|---|---|---|
| Where it runs | A cloud device streamed to your browser | Your own iPhone or Android phone |
| Plans | Every plan (Free within the one-time trial) | Pro or Max |
| Setup | None | Install Companion, connect a phone by USB |
| Best for | Fast iteration while you build | Testing the real feel, sensors and performance |
The simulator
Open the preview and press Turn on simulator. The app builds and launches on a cloud device. It turns off after 3 minutes without interaction and uses your plan's usage while it runs. See Live preview.
A real phone with Companion
OpenV2 Companion installs a native build on a USB-connected phone.
- In the preview toolbar choose Run on your device, or open the device menu, and follow the Companion setup.
- Sign in to your OpenV2 account in Companion.
- Connect and unlock your phone over USB.
- Complete the platform steps below.
- Start the install from OpenV2. Install again after changes to test the latest build.
iPhone
Sign in to your Apple account in Companion, enable Developer Mode, and trust the developer on the phone after installing. A free Apple account has limits: see Apple account limits. For download, signing, USB trust and renewals from Windows, follow Companion for Windows.
Android
Enable Developer options and USB debugging, then accept the authorization prompt on the phone. Companion must show the device as ready before you install.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| The simulator will not start | Read the message in the preview. It may be your usage limit, which says when it resets. Retry after the build finishes. |
| Blank screen or failed launch | Open the logs panel and ask the chat to fix the error |
| The phone is not detected | Reconnect USB, unlock the phone and accept the trust or debugging prompt |
| The iPhone asks for trust | Follow the developer-trust steps in Companion and iOS Settings |
| An old version is running | Wait for the build to succeed and install again |
A phone test is not a release
Installing on your phone does not publish your app. See Publishing overview.
